Steven Thames, OTR, CHT
In 1996, Steve Thames received his bachelors in Occupational Therapy from Concordia University Wisconsin. He received his hand certification in 2007.
Steve is a member of Wisconsin Hand Therapy Association, American Society of Hand Therapists, Wisconsin Occupational Therapy Association and American Occupation Therapy Association.
Cheryl Abitz, CHT, OT
Cheryl earned her degree in occupational therapy in 1997 from Mount Mary University. She spent the early part of her career in the sub-acute, acute, and outpatient settings before finding her true passion of hand therapy where she is proficient in the treatment of pre and post-surgical upper extremity orthopedic conditions. Being a life-long learner, Cheryl earned certifications in hand therapy, wound care and orthopedic manual therapy for the upper extremity, and is a member of the Wisconsin Occupational Therapy Association and the American Society of Hand Therapists.
Maria Statz, PT, DPT
Maria completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) at St. Catherine University in Minneapolis, MN. Following school she began to work directly in the field of orthopaedics. Being an athlete herself, athletic injuries have been a passion of hers and a focus on continuing education each year. Maria has completed certification through Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center for their Sportmetrics Training program with an emphasis in ACL injury prevention and rehabilitation. Maria also focuses on running injuries at any age and ability with a passion for assisting athletes as they return to running and begin a safe, effective running program.
Along with her husband and young boys, Maria is a competitive cross country skier having completed the American Birkenbiner each year since 2009. During the warmer months, she enjoys racing mountain bike at an elite level and continues to run and participate in several trail running events and summer softball.
John Egge, PT, DPT, SCS
In 2011 John Egge graduated from the University of Minnesota with a clinical doctorate in Physical Therapy. In 2012 he completed a sports fellowship at Howard Head Sports Medicine Center in Vail, Colorado and is now a Sports Certified Specialist in Physical Therapy (SCS).
Although he has extensive knowledge in working with all types of injuries, John has a special interest in athletic hip injuries in skating and running athletes. He also specializes in managing concussed athletes by facilitating a safe return to play program. John’s passion for athletics continues as he stays active in hockey and coaching. He is the head trainer for the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings and assistant coach for the Lincoln High School boys’ hockey team.
Emily Schanock, PT, DPT
Emily completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) at Carroll University in Waukesha, WI in 2019. While in school Emily developed a strong interest in orthopedics and completed three different clinical internships in outpatient orthopedic settings, one of which was here at Wisconsin River Orthopaedics. Fortunately, Emily was able to accept her first PT position directly in orthopedics and in her hometown. Emily has developed a strong interest in post-surgical rehabilitation for the hip, knee, and ankle. Although she has experience with a wide variety of post-surgical conditions, Emily has a strong passion for individuals recovering from total knee replacement surgery.
Bria Cook, PT, DPT
Bria graduated from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA with her Bachelor of Science in Exercises Science. Bria then went on to earn her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) at St. Ambrose University. Bria works with patients of all ages and diagnosis including: shoulder rehab, joint replacements and multi-complex orthopedic patients. She also specializes in dry needling which is meant to assist in normalizing the inflammatory response of tissues and reduce pain. Bria loves when she can help a patient to reach their goals to live more fully. Bria is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) with special interest in the orthopaedic and sports sections. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her husband, son and two dogs – Tank and Bella. They enjoy being active outdoors and traveling to visit friends and family.
Steve Kubisiak, PT, DPT
Steve completed his Doctorate of Physical therapy (DPT) at Carroll University in Waukesha, WI. After graduation he spent time working in Minneapolis before returning to Wisconsin Rapids to focus on outpatient and orthopedic physical therapy. He has a strong interest in working with athletes of all ages and abilities. He has a particular interest in Orthopedic and Manual Physical Therapy, and has attended a series of continuing education courses focused on manual techniques and practices. He enjoys working with orthopedic injuries of all types, and as an avid outdoorsman and curler he understands the importance of returning to patients to their passions and not letting injuries become limiting.
