Frank Walter, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon at Wisconsin River Orthopaedics, serving patients in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and holds a Certification of Additional Qualification in Hand Surgery.
Dr. Walter was exposed to orthopaedics as a teenager when he had two knee surgeries so he could continue to play high school sports and college baseball. He completed his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. As a medical student, he enjoyed working with patients to get them back to an active life.
He then completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Detroit Medical Center, affiliated with Wayne State University. Afterward, he pursued a fellowship in orthopaedic surgery focusing on the hand and upper extremity at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
He is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and Wisconsin Orthopaedic Society.
The most enjoyable thing about orthopaedics for Dr. Walter is the happy smiles on his patients’ faces when they recover from their procedures and get back to the life they had before their injury. Orthopaedics gives him the opportunity to help patients maintain an active and healthy life.
Dr. Walter strives to involve his patients in the decision-making process as much as possible by spending time discussing their specific problem as it relates to their situation. He draws lots of pictures and uses different analogies to explain their condition to them.
Dr. Walter likes to spend his free time with his wife and four kids who keep him busy. He also enjoys golfing, hiking, biking, working out, cooking, and attending school and community events.
